Job Description
Job Description Summary
As a Research Engineer – Mechanical Dynamics, you will play a key role in executing technology programs in advanced structural dynamics, vibration, impact mechanics, and nonlinear mechanical design for next generation medical devices. You will collaborate closely with technologists, mechanical designers, and multi disciplinary engineering teams to develop and deliver innovative solutions for complex structural and dynamic challenges across GE HealthCare’s product portfolio.
GE HealthCare is a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. Our purpose is to create a world where healthcare has no limits. Unlock your ambition, turn ideas into world changing realities, and join an organization where every voice makes a difference — and every difference builds a healthier world.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Apply strong foundations in structural dynamics, vibrations, nonlinear mechanics, and impact/contact behaviour to develop robust mechanical‑dynamics solutions for GE HealthCare product architectures.
Participate within a collaborative team framework on multi‑generation technology programs, enabling future mechanical design advancements, while independently executing specialized technical tasks.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Advanced modeling and simulation, including:
Nonlinear finite element analysis (static & dynamic)
Drop/impact simulations (explicit dynamics)
Modal, harmonic, transient dynamics, and stability/bifurcation analyses
High‑fidelity computational modeling using commercial tools (Abaqus, Ansys LS‑DYNA, COMSOL) and in‑house code development in MATLAB/Python/C++, where applicable.
Develop and implement experimental hardware and fixtures for validation of dynamic behavior, impact resilience, and nonlinear deformation mechanics.
Deliver on technical projects with defined timelines and cost objectives; implement plans with minimal guidance to meet engineering requirements and assure high‑quality documentation.
Educational Qualifications
Doctorate in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related field OR master’s degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or related field with 5+ years of industry or research experience in structural dynamics or mechanical simulation.
Required Skills
Fundamental knowledge in any of the following areas:
Structural Dynamics
Vibrations
Nonlinear Mechanics
Impact/Contact Mechanics
Computational Mechanics
Experience using commercial CAE tools such as Abaqus, Ansys Mechanical, LS‑DYNA, COMSOL Multiphysics for dynamic or nonlinear simulations.
Ability to design, execute, and interpret dynamic and mechanical experiments, integrating simulation and physical testing for validation.
Demonstrated ability to learn new mechanical or computational domains quickly and to abstract complex system‑level behavior.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including scientific reporting and presentation.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in cross‑functional environments.
