Job Description

Overview

The Commerce Data Model Platform team is at the heart of enabling seamless, scalable, and intelligent commerce experiences across Microsoft. We build and maintain the foundational data models that power commerce transactions, product catalogs, pricing, and customer insights across multiple Microsoft products and services.

This role sits at the intersection of commerce, data, platform strategy, and AI-enabled product development. The Product Manager (Individual Contributor) owns core commerce data models that support pricing, products, subscriptions, billing, usage, and revenue insights across the organization. The role partners closely with engineering, analytics, finance, and upstream and downstream product teams to define clear, durable, and extensible data contracts, shaping how teams design, scale, and reason about commerce experiences using consistent and trusted data. AI-assisted analysis and synthesis are central to how the role evaluates complexity, identifies patterns, and informs platform decisions.

The Product Manager is accountable for defining and delivering a commerce data model platform that enables consistent, trusted, and scalable use of commerce data across products and systems. AI tools are used throughout the product lifecycle to support customer discovery, competitive analysis, data exploration, specification drafting, prioritization, and decision-making. The Product Manager owns features end to end, produces clear product artifacts, defines and tracks success metrics, incorporates feedback through customer and internal engagement, advocates for platform capabilities with go-to-market partners, influences roadmap prioritization, and ensures product decisions and launches align with security, compliance, and governance standards.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Own the vision, scope, and roadmap for core commerce data models, ensuring alignment with business, platform, and customer priorities.
  • Translate complex commerce workflows into well-defined data entities, attributes, and relationships that serve multiple downstream consumers reliably.
  • Partner closely with engineering to define and maintain data contracts, schemas, and quality standards, and drive execution through clear prioritization.
  • Apply AI tools to improve discovery, documentation, analysis, and decision-making across the product lifecycle.
  • Define, track, and evaluate success metrics related to adoption, data quality, and platform impact, using insights to guide iteration.
  • Engage customers and internal stakeholders through feature previews, feedback loops, and community engagement, advocating for platform capabilities and improvements.
  • Exercise sound judgment and critical thinking by synthesizing data, feedback, and constraints to make timely decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and understand how product choices impact interconnected systems and teams.
  • Produce clear product specifications and manage delivery execution by planning work, coordinating dependencies, tracking deliverables, and assessing the impact of decisions on quality, timelines, cost, and outcomes.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications (From Role Library, plus any other HM-determined qualifications)

  • Bachelors Degree AND 5-8 years of overall experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience and 2+ years of product management experience

Preferred Qualifications (all REQs must include the AI qualification below, other qualifications set by HM to align with role)

  • 2 years of MBA in product strategy & Marketing or Finance
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance engineering effectiveness, coupled with a strong curiosity and commitment to continuous learning in the field of Artificial Intelligence
