Principal Product Manager

The Purview Data Governance team builds the core experiences that help customers discover, understand, and govern their data at scale. The team enables trusted data usage through cataloging, lineage, classification, and stewardship, forming the foundation for secure and compliant data-driven decisions across Microsoft Purview.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

• Define long-term product vision, strategy, and roadmap across organizational boundaries
• Write product framing memos emphasizing AI as a core differentiator
• Translate complex AI concepts into business value for executives and customers
• Build consensus across cross-functional teams, partners, and senior leadership
• Assess partnership and acquisition opportunities .
  
  

Customer & Market Intelligence

• Lead AI-powered analysis of customer signals (usage, telemetry, feedback) to identify unmet needs
• Conduct competitive analyses and market research as subject matter expert
• Engage directly with customers through 1:1 interactions and broader forums
• Share strategic insights with senior stakeholders to drive cross-team alignment .
  
  

Product Development

• Own product roadmap, prioritize backlog, and manage tradeoffs with engineering teams
• Lead feature definition and collaborate with Design on UX, APIs, and functionality
• Partner with data science teams on model objectives, training data, and AI metrics
• Drive MVP development using AI prototyping tools and auto-generated workflows
• Ensure quality, security, and ethical standards are met .
  
  

Go-to-Market

• Define release criteria, customer acquisition, and monetization strategies
• Create strategy from private preview to general availability
• Build marketing plans and content supporting product launches
• Evangelize products at Executive Briefing Centers and industry events
• Present to stakeholders, partners, analysts, and customers.
  
  

Metrics & Performance

• Define and track OKRs and KPIs (engagement, usage, revenue, NPS, profitability)
• Set AI-specific success metrics (precision/recall, relevance scores)
• Ensure proper telemetry and data collection with engineering partners
• Understand COGS deeply and drive profitability improvements
• Conduct advanced analytics and drive data-driven decisions .
  
  

Customer Engagement

• Build trust with key customers and maintain communication throughout product lifecycle
• Lead customer communities and engagement programs
• Drive support process improvements using AI-driven workflows
• Utilize customer personas and AI-based research for effective communication
  
  

Qualifications

• 6+ years product management experience with complex, cross-organizational products
• Deep AI/ML expertise with proven ability to integrate AI-first thinking into strategy.
• Track record defining product vision that drives significant business impact.
• Strong technical background (APIs, infrastructure, AI modeling).
• Expert stakeholder management and ability to influence senior leadership.
• Strong analytical skills with OKR/KPI definition and tracking experience.
• Go-to-market planning and product launch experience.
