Principal Engineering Manager

We build Microsoft’s cloud storage solution -- Azure Storage -- a massively scalable, highly distributed, ubiquitously accessible storage system, designed to scale out and serve the entire world.

Azure Storage is growing its engineering R&D team focused on providing the worlds lowest cost cloud-based storage. The SKU Enablement team is responsible for SKU Validation and Software development for ensuring quick deployment of new SKUs and developing software for efficiently running the fleet, maintaining high availability, and supporting operational readiness across Azure Storage. We are looking for software engineers/leads interested in helping us fulfil our vision of providing a storage service capable of satisfying the worlds ever increasing demand for cloud-based storage for many years to come.

Responsibilities

• Lead in a hands-on manner. Be in the trenches where needed.
• Build high scale and low-latency systems
• Special focus on R&D to improvise existing and build new architectures
• Layout a multi-horizon strategy to guide our research and development efforts based on the latest and greatest in software development practices. Iterate on this strategy as the field evolves and new barriers are breached.
• Hire and lead a diverse team of world-class engineers while being responsible for driving all aspects of product validation and development
• Create and instill a team culture that focuses on sound scientific processes and encourages deep engagement with our customers.
• Handle project scope and risks with data, analytics and creative problem solving
• Be a bridge between various stakeholders in Azure Storage, Azure Core, product management and engineering teams to align and amplify their efforts.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 12+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of people management experience.

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for this role.These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position requires passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
