About This Role
As a Principal AI Engineer at OutSystems, you will bridge research innovations and production systems to deploy cutting-edge AI across the full application lifecycle, from design to development and production. Youll work closely with Research Scientists and AI Engineers to transform state-of-the-art models into robust, scalable, and efficient software development experiences. Your expertise will directly impact how developers interact with our platform, making complex development tasks intuitive and accessible.
This role is critical in scaling our AI & Data Platform serving as the foundational layer for OutSystems growing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning initiatives. You will play a key part in ensuring our AI & Data platform meets the demanding requirements of AI/ML model training, evaluation, and serving, supporting our goal to deploy cutting-edge AI across the full application lifecycle.
What You Will Lead/Do Or Key Responsibilities
- Design of Data/ML/AI systems, cross teams, and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Implementation of OutSystems’ AI platform and services.
- Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant systems for serving sophisticated AI models, focusing on reliability, efficiency, and best practices.
- Deep knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in designing and building a highly scalable data platform for ingesting, processing, storing, and forwarding large amounts of data.
- Shape data collection strategies and feedback loops, enabling continuous learning and improvement of our AI capabilities and product offerings.
- Guide, mentor, and elevate the technical capabilities of other AI Engineers, fostering best practices in design, implementation, and AI development.
- Maintain deep knowledge of the state-of-the-art in AI/ML models, agents, and dev tools, championing the adoption of relevant advancements within the team and company.
- Interact and collaborate cross-functionally with different teams to identify opportunities and improve our AI products and data infrastructure.
- Work with Product Engineering teams to turn internal and product requirements into sustainable solutions that enable efficient software engineering and system visibility for our clients.
- Lead the end-to-end design and development of scalable data platforms and pipelines for ingesting, processing, and storing large-scale data, specifically considering the unique requirements of AI/ML model training, evaluation, feature serving, and inference workloads.
- Develop architectural patterns and best practices that align with business and technical goals, focusing on cost efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications / What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelors and preferably Masters in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Physics, Statistics).
- 13+ years of hands-on professional experience with 5+ years in SW Engineering and 5+ years in applied AI/ML roles, with a proven track record of delivering impactful products.
- Demonstrable experience deploying and managing Large Language Models (LLMs) in production environments
- Proven ability in designing, building, and shipping complex, data-intensive, and scalable systems in a real-world setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and programming proficiency, with the ability to architect and implement end-to-end solutions (from data processing and model development to deployment and monitoring). Experience in Python is a must, in C# is valued.
