BW HANA Senior Data Engineer

Role Summary

The role involves leading the design, development, and optimization of large-scale data integration pipelines and enterprise data models to support analytics and reporting. The focus is on seamless integration of SAP and non-SAP data sources, especially feeding SAP data into Snowflake, managing hundreds of data pipelines, and ensuring data quality. The role includes technical leadership of a team of data integration and engineering specialists and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the building and management of secure, scalable data ingestion pipelines from various SAP and non-SAP systems into SAP BW/HANA and Snowflake.
• Implement data acquisition concepts including Change Data Capture (CDC), full load, and delta load to maintain synchronization with source systems.
• Harmonize and catalog data assets to support data consistency, discoverability, and usability for downstream analytics and reporting.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data integration specialists, driving best practices, quality assurance, and delivery excellence.
• Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand data requirements, prioritize initiatives, and align data integration with organizational goals.
• Document data integration workflows, transformation logic, and security configurations.
• Stay abreast of SAP BW/4HANA, SAP BDC, SAP HANA, Databricks & Snowflake developments, and emerging data integration technologies.
  
  

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 10+ years hands-on experience in SAP BW/HANA data modeling or enterprise data integration using BODS.
• Proven experience managing the design, development, and operations of large-scale data pipelines, including SAP to Snowflake integration.
• Strong knowledge of data quality management, pipeline monitoring, and data governance frameworks.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with effective communication and stakeholder management.
• Proficiency with ELT tools such as BODS and SLT and data acquisition methods such as CDC, full and delta load.
  
  

• Master’s degree or advanced certification in data integration or data management.
• Experience with analytics/reporting tools such as SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, or BusinessObjects.
• Familiarity with Python scripting for automation of data workflows.
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks) and their integration with SAP BW/HANA as complementary data solutions.
• Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and modern data platform best practices.
