Job Description Summary
The role is an Intellectual Property (IP) / AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) Engineer based in Bangalore at GE Aerospace. You will collaborate with technologists, IP engineers, and IP counsel to design and deliver AI-enabled web applications for the IP organization, translating requirements into scalable, secure solutions using modern full-stack technologies and AWS services. Responsibilities may also include performing IP analytics with minimal guidance—collecting patent and competitive intelligence across AI, SaaS, and digital technologies relevant to jet engines—and analyzing both IP and non-IP literature to generate insights that inform and advance the company’s IP strategy.
Job Description
Company Overview
Working at GE Aerospace means you are bringing your unique perspective, innovative spirit, drive, and curiosity to a collaborative and diverse team working to advance aerospace for future generations. If you have ideas, we will listen. Join us and see your ideas take flight!
Site Overview
Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.
Role Overview
- Building, evolving, and maintaining web-based applications and internal platforms that enable the IP organization to search, analyze, and compile technical, commercial, and patent information efficiently and accurately.
- Translating incremental and net-new requirements from IP stakeholders (technologists, leadership, legal) into robust system architectures and scalable solutions using modern full-stack technologies and AWS services.
- Developing and integrating automation and AI (including LLM-based features) to accelerate workflows such as patent/technology landscape analysis, patentability assessments, FTP/SWOT reviews, and portfolio insights with auditable output and clear traceability.
- Applying systems thinking to design modular architectures, data pipelines, and secure integrations with internal and external data sources, ensuring reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Owning the full lifecycle: requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations (DevOps/CI-CD) with proactive monitoring and iterative improvement.
- Presenting solution options, trade-offs, and recommendations in a concise and actionable manner to non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
- Conduct targeted IP analytics with minimal guidance: perform searches, analyze prior art and competitive signals, synthesize findings, and generate decision-ready insights for IP strategy.
- Proactively managing dependencies and delivery risks to meet fixed timelines and customer commitments; ensuring solutions align to SQDC priorities with Safety and Quality first.
- Leading and/or participating in continuous improvement initiatives (Flight Deck) to standardize tooling, templates, development workflows, and documentation.
The Ideal Candidate
- A full-stack engineer with hands-on experience delivering production-grade web applications and services, combined with strong systems thinking for end-to-end architecture.
Passionate about applying automation, AI/LLM, and cloud-native capabilities to meaningfully improve productivity, quality, and decision velocity for IP teams.
Comfortable partnering with global IP analysts, technologists, and legal stakeholders to co-create solutions with clear value and measurable outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- BE/MTech/MS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3+ years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining full-stack web applications in production.
- Proficiency across the stack: front end (e.g., React/Angular/Vue, TypeScript), back end (e.g., Node.js/Express, Python/FastAPI, or Java/Spring), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and APIs (REST/GraphQL).
- Experience designing solution architectures (microservices or modular monoliths), data models, and integration patterns; familiarity with event-driven and message-based designs is a plus.
- Hands-on AWS experience (e.g., Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront, RDS/DynamoDB, Step Functions, CloudWatch, IAM) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform).
- Exposure to AI/LLM development patterns: prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, model evaluation, and guardrails for safety and quality.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to translate ambiguous user problems into iteratively deliverable software with measurable impact.
- Ability to conduct IP-related research, synthesize insights from IP and non-IP literature, and translate ambiguous problems into deliverable software increments.
- Experience working with global teams and excellent communication skills; able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with high ownership and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating with IP/patent data sources and tools (public or subscription databases) or building analytics workflows over semi-structured and unstructured data.
- Familiarity with secure data handling, access controls, auditing, and compliance in enterprise environments; understanding of logging, monitoring, and incident response practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins), automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), and quality gates.
- Lean mindset to automate/simplify processes; experience building internal tooling (dashboards, job orchestration, reusable libraries) and using automation methods/tools (e.g., Python, TypeScript, Excel macros where needed).
- Practical experience with vector databases, semantic search, and RAG frameworks; exposure to model hosting, fine-tuning, or using managed AI services.
Desirable Qualification
- Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
- Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively
- Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed
- Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative
- Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker
