The Department Manager is responsible for driving sales, maintaining operational excellence, ensuring exceptional customer service, and leading the team within the assigned department. This role ensures merchandise presentation, stock availability, and adherence to company standards to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Experience
Achieve department sales targets, KPIs, and profitability goals.
Ensure high levels of customer service and resolve customer queries promptly.
Monitor customer feedback and take corrective actions to improve service standards.
Team Management
Lead, train, and motivate department staff to deliver performance expectations.
Schedule staff shifts and manage daily workforce planning.
Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
Maintain discipline, grooming standards, and staff engagement.
Inventory & Stock Management
Ensure product availability through timely replenishment and stock rotation.
Conduct stock counts, manage shrinkage, and maintain accurate inventory levels.
Coordinate with warehouse and supply chain teams for stock requirements.
Visual Merchandising
Maintain store display standards according to brand guidelines.
Ensure correct placement of signage, pricing, and promotional materials.
Execute seasonal, promotional, and new launch displays on time.
Store Operations
Ensure compliance with SOPs related to cash handling, hygiene, safety, and store upkeep.
Assist in store opening/closing procedures.
Monitor department cleanliness, fixture maintenance, and overall ambience.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare daily/weekly sales reports and share insights with the Store Manager.
Track KPIs such as conversion, ATV, UPT, shrinkage, and manpower performance.
Document training, performance issues, and inventory data.
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication and customer-handling ability
Good understanding of retail KPIs and store operations
Knowledge of merchandising and inventory management
Ability to handle pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in MS Office and basic retail systems (POS, inventory tools)
