Produce, Perishables and Proteins (P3) comprises everyday essentials – F&V, Dairy, Meats & seafood, Frozen RTC etc., all of which are temperature controlled with short shelf life. These categories are frequency drivers to the platform and are critical to improve UPO on Fresh. These categories are considered to be ‘basket breakers’ and can directly influence order conversion rates.
Category Manager, P3 owns end-to-end customer experience of P3 categories and is responsible for ensuring best-in-class customer inputs, drive growth of categories and improve profitability. Additionally, should drive strategic engagement with MFN sellers on Fresh program.
Key Responsibilities Include:
P3 Selection Strategy: Candidate needs to define the selection strategy (2000+ selection) for P3 categories by conducting regular selection benchmarking exercises, range reviews to bridge regional and seasonal / topical selection gaps. Candidate should also define selection efficiency framework to ensure we are carrying the right selection.
Strategic Planning & Engaging diverse stakeholders: Deliver category growth and drive penetration of P3 categories by working with (a) Vendor Managers (VM) to bridge selection gaps and negotiate best deals (b) In stock teams (ISM) to maintain high-bar on in-stock mainly in seasonal and strategic cohorts (Ex: Mangoes, Fruits) (c) Marketing to execute merchandizing plans (d) Central category team to ensure compliance with defined pricing policies (e) Hybrid Store category managers to drive parity in inputs (f) Quality / Food safety & compliance team to mitigate quality risks and stay on top of regulatory changes.(g) Candidate needs to work with other sellers on Fresh to bridge selection gaps in imported ultra-low shelf-life category cohorts.
Drive process efficiencies: The candidate needs to work with Product/tech to launch P3 category relevant features , BI teams to build automated reports/dashboards for tracking business metrics. Streamline existing processes through strong mechanisms and automation to reduce manual effort
Managing Seasonal/topical demand and consumption patterns: All 3 categories have strong seasonal and regional nuances (Ex: Mangoes, Ice creams in summer; Frozen snacks during Monsoons; Eggs, Meat, strawberries during Winter.) Hence, the candidate needs to demonstrate strong customer and category knowledge and understand the competition and industry across all 3 categories.
Strategic partnerships: Not just internal stakeholders, but the candidate has to liaise with 50+ external brand partners to drive profitability goals through COOP+SBS+AMS.
Represent P3 categories in larger forums: Candidate needs to create the right visibility to Amazon Fresh leadership on strategic initiatives, proactively identify bottlenecks and ensure that partner teams prioritize solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
4+ years of with Excel experience
3+ years of retail, operations, product or program management, or business management/consulting with negotiations and delivering results experience
Experience with financial analysis and P&L ownership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience managing large data sets and utilizing to drive performance and process improvements
Experience in vendor negotiations, pricing and promotion, inventory management, and product development
MBA, or Advanced degree
