Supplier Quality Engineer

Identifies, coaches and manages suppliers according to the organizations quality standards and policies. Conducts audits to ensure products, materials and components are meeting organization quality standards and applicable government standards. Monitors supplier performance and provides advice and training on quality protocols. Supports efforts to develop and implement changes to improve the production process. Ensures solutions on quality deviations are identified and implemented. Negotiates service level agreements and performance/quality metrics; and ensures contractual obligations are being met. Identifies and certifies alternative suppliers to mitigate supply disruption risks.

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that incoming material meets specification, ensuring that in-house metrology meets inspection and throughput requirements, support staff has adequate training, and works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. May also assist in fixture design for in-situ measurements, accelerating measurement throughput, and/or enabling higher yield for challenging specifications.

Role And Responsibilities

• Track quality data, identify root causes of recurring failures, develop and implement corrective actions.
• Perform quality audits at supplier facilities to ensure good manufacturing practices are met.
• Performs ISO audits on internal departments.
• Responsible for building a strong working relationship with the Purchasing department to collectively improve supplier performance.
• Provides direction to QA team and other departments as needed.
• Reviews and approves deviations.
• Interfaces with internal departments to develop inspection plans and sampling rates.
• Reviews supplier Corrective Action Requests to ensure corrective actions are effective.
• Performs root cause analysis of defects.
• Responsible for properly disposing defective material.
• Drives process improvements in-house.
• Drives efficiency improvements through process changes, fixturing, training, metrology selection, and design feedback.
• Write CMM programs for automated inspection of incoming or outgoing material and train operators in their use. Optimize programs for throughput.
• Other duties may be assigned as required.
  
  

Skills And Qualifications

• Requires a BS degree in Engineering or a technical field and a minimum of 5-8 years experience in Quality engineering.
• Must be familiar with a wide range of manufacturing processes including metal forming, welding, machining, coating, and hardware installation.
• Familiarity with PCBA fabrication and test processes is desired.
• Must have solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing in a production environment, Lean/Six Sigma training.
• IPC standards certification is desired.
• Familiarity with SAP
• Solidworks or other 3D modeling software
• Experience with CMMs or other automated inspection equipment
