The Enterprise Observability organization is looking for a versatile and experienced Product Owner to be a part of the Observability strategy for American Express. As a Product Owner, you will be bridging the gap between engineering teams and business goals, collaborate with internal customers and partners to prioritize the business needs, advance our strategy, build/own the roadmap, and deliver on these priorities.
Responsibilities
Define and communicate the product vision and strategy for observability solutions ensuring alignment with organizational goals
Work closely with engineering, SRE, DevOps and business partners to gather requirements and understand user needs
Prioritise features based on user feedback, market trends and business value
Ensure that the observability tools are user friendly, provide actionable insight to teams and enhancing their ability to observe and troubleshoot systems
Define success metrics for observability tools and analyse their effectiveness to meeting organizational, performance and reliability goals
Stay informed on industry trends and technological advancements to continuously improve the product
Build and actively own the product backlog of features and capabilities that are refined and prioritized
Lead and work with product peers on the allocation of scrum team capacity by translating features into prioritized user stories
Full participation in and support of agile practices and ceremonies to reinforce the agile execution methodology of the delivery team
Build a comprehensive understanding of American Express’ Observability ecosystem across private and public clouds, as well as the competitive landscape
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required (BS or MS degree in computer science or an equivalent preferred)
Minimum 8 years of experience as product owner/manager
A solid understanding of observability concepts and monitoring tools including ELK stack, Grafana and Prometheus. Experience with Open Telemetry strongly preferred.
Knowledge of / experience with Docker, Kubernetes and one or more public clouds - AWS, GCP or Azure
Must have experience communicating and influencing above and creating/delivering presentations for wide leadership audiences
Experience working in building large-scale, high-performance backend solutions preferred
Team skills, including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels within organization, internally and externally
Proficient knowledge of Agile and Scrum development methodologies and IT project management
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with various stakeholders and drive to optimal requirements
Strong problem structuring and solving skills, reasoning, and implications development, combined with strong business acumen
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and complete tasks
Preferred Qualifications
Public Cloud/CNCF project(s) certification would be considered a strong plus
Hands on experience on some or all of the following programming Languages and Frameworks preferred: Kotlin, Gradle, Python, Java/J2EE, Redis, Kafka, OpenShift, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch
