Credfix is an AI-first debt management and resolution platform for India's distressed borrowers. Millions of borrowers who have defaulted on personal loans, credit cards, and secured loans navigate recovery pressure, legal notices, and settlement negotiations with no one on their side. We're building that side — a product that helps borrowers understand where they stand, respond to what's coming at them, and resolve their debt on fair terms. We're a seed-funded team based in Bengaluru, building primarily for Tier 2/3 India on a WhatsApp-first model.

About this role

We're looking for a Head – Legal to lead our legal function end to end. This role is unusual: it combines the classic in-house mandate — litigation strategy, contracts, compliance, external counsel management — with a product-building mandate. Legal solutions embedded within our product are a core pillar of the company thesis: our users actively seek legal guidance after defaulting on secured and unsecured loans, and we're building to serve that need at scale while staying clearly compliant on what the product can solve versus what must be routed to external legal professionals.

You'll own both sides — the legal function that protects and enables the company, and the legal capability that lives inside the product.

Key Responsibility

Legal function & operations

• Lead litigation strategy and legal operations across India.
• Manage and supervise external counsel, law firms, and legal vendors on a pan-India basis.
• Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS, technology, vendor, commercial, and strategic partnership agreements.
• Provide legal support for debt recovery, collections, and platform operations.
• Advise founders and business teams on legal, regulatory, contractual, and compliance matters.
• Develop legal policies, governance frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies.

Legal product

• Build the legal knowledge engine inside the product: notice-type taxonomies, decision trees, response templates, and plain-language explainers for borrowers dealing with Sec 138 NI Act notices, arbitration references, SARFAESI communications, and Lok Adalat / ODR settlement processes — written for a Tier 2/3 borrower in simple Hindi/Hinglish, not legalese.
• Define and defend the regulatory boundary: architect what Credfix delivers in-product (legal information, document explanation, guided self-help) versus what routes to external advocates (advice on specific matters, representation, filings), keeping us clearly on the right side of the Advocates Act and BCI rules.
• Design and manage the external advocate network — empanelment across key jurisdictions, workflows, SLAs, and a referral structure compliant with fee-sharing and advertising restrictions.
• Supervise AI-generated legal content: guardrails, review workflows, and clear limits on what the AI may and may not say.
• Productize borrower-protection use cases: complaints and escalations for recovery harassment under RBI's Fair Practices Code, recovery agent guidelines, and Ombudsman pathways.
  

Preferred Profile

• LL.B. (LL.M. preferred) with 6–8+ years of post-qualification experience.
• Strong experience in FinTech, Banking, NBFC, or Debt Resolution / Collections platforms.
• Hands-on experience managing high-volume litigation and external counsel across India — with deep familiarity with debt-side matters: Sec 138 NI Act, NACH/ECS dishonour, arbitration in loan agreements, SARFAESI, Lok Adalat / ODR.
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating SaaS, technology, commercial, and vendor agreements.
• Working fluency with the RBI regulatory landscape relevant to recovery: Fair Practices Code, recovery agent norms, digital lending guidelines.
• A templatization mindset: you've seen legal matters at volume and instinctively look for the 80% that can be systematised.
• Plain-language writing ability in English and Hindi, and genuine comfort with AI tools — supervising LLM-generated legal content is a meaningful part of this role.
• Strong business acumen, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have: experience at a legal-first collections or resolution platform (lender-side experience is a strength, not a conflict); familiarity with personal insolvency under IBC including the Fresh Start process; prior exposure to product management practices.
