Sr Technical Architect - Cloud - SQL Server Azure SQL Troubleshooting SolarWinds Powershell Commvault

Scope

• The Senior Technical SQL Server Architect will be responsible for managing and supporting mission-critical SQL Server database environments in a 24/7 enterprise setup.
• This role requires a strong hands-on DBA who can independently troubleshoot complex production issues, perform performance tuning, automate operational activities, and drive incidents to closure. The person will work closely with application, infrastructure, operations, and customer-facing teams to ensure database availability, stability, performance, and reliability.
• This role is critical to maintaining business continuity, improving operational efficiency, reducing recurring incidents, and ensuring a high-quality customer experience.
  
  

What You Will Do

• Own and operate mission-critical Oracle / SQL Server databases in a 24/7 environment.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, tune performance, automate operational tasks, support backup/recovery and HA/DR, communicate with stakeholders, and drive incidents to closure.
• Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases to ensure maximum performance, availability, and security.
• Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies.
• Serve as SME (subject matter expert) for Microsoft SQL Server.
• Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, including database corruption and performance problems.
• Perform database tuning and optimization to improve performance and scalability.
• Develop and implement database security policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure database integration with other systems.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of database upgrades and migrations.
• Develop and maintain database documentation and standards.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs.
• Problem management - analyze & fix reported problems, work with other team members in troubleshooting problems.
• Troubleshooting – Performance and other issues.
• Proactive database monitoring for performance and other problems
• Testing Upgrade packages
• Preparing Upgrade packages
• Performing non-prod restores/refreshes.
• Expanding data files
• Managing disk space and capacity planning
• Creating/adjusting SQL Agent Jobs
• Database migrations
• SQL Server installs (cluster and non-cluster) and builds
• Working with cluster systems and Virtual servers
• Creating stored procedures
• Responding and replying to database support tickets and emails
• On-call support – pager rotation, work weekends, evenings

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred) and minimum of 10-13 years of relevant work experience as an Sr. MS SQL DBA
• Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies; preferable hands-on experience in working with Azure
• Experience in handling customer escalations
• Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using PowerShell, Python scripting or similar technologies, ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
• The right candidate should have knowledge of PowerShell, Ansible, Git Actions etc.
• Experience with DevOps methodologies and tools (Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes)
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Zabbix, Splunk, Solarwind).
• Solid understanding of cloud Infrastructure environments, specifically Windows based deployments.
• Excellent SQL skills and ability to write complex queries to pull and analyze data from multiple sources.
• Good understanding of different file formats such as YML, JSON, Parquet.
• Excellent organizational skills, able to take a systematic approach in resolving issues.
• Good communication and coordination skills and able to work efficiently under pressure.
