Senior Solution Architect - IBM Z Ecosystem

Introduction

IBM Z Ecosystem is hiring a Senior Solution Architect who has extensive experience with IBM Z (Mainframe) platform /technologies and is an expert in architecting solutions around Hybrid cloud, Data, AI, DevOps and Security, leveraging the features and capabilities of IBM Z hardware and software.

Our Solution Architects who are part of the GSI Ecosystem mission work very closely with IBM’s top Business Partners (Consultancies, GSIs/Service Partners) to help them and their clients achieve maximum business value from their investments on IBM Z Platform. Through our Business Partners, they drive the adoption of the latest IBM Z platform and technology capabilities such that Service Partners are able to help the clients modernize the applications and operations on Modern Mainframes, to achieve more efficiency, productivity, security and resiliency.

Your Role And Responsibilities

IBM Z GSI Solution Architects drive the adoption of technology patterns for mainframe application and operations modernization. Therefore, all Solution Architects should be able understand, appreciate and advocate the hybrid, in-place modernization leveraging the latest software and hardware advancements and capabilities on IBM Z.

As a Senior Solution Architect, you will bring -

• 15-20 years of industry experience with IBM Z (Mainframe) platform and technologies.
• At least 5 years of experience as an Enterprise architect/ Solution Architect supporting enterprise clients having IBM Z (Mainframe) running critical applications in their IT environment.
• Thorough understanding of the point of view of modernizing applications for the modern Mainframes where IBM Mainframes remain at the core of the Enterprise IT strategy.
• Demonstrated expertise to engage with Clients /Partners and communicate effectively as a subject matter expert (SME) on IBM Z.
• Prior experience of working with Service Partners/System Integrators/Consultancies and helping them design/architect/build solutions to run on IBM Mainframes.
• Experience in working with technologies and offerings around Data and AI, Security, Hybrid Cloud, DevOps and Cloud Native Application development, preferably on IBM Z platform.
• Hands-on skills with IBM Z platform and technology offerings to be able create assets /accelerators and showcase to customers, conduct PoCs/PoTs, conduct enablement sessions etc.
• Ability to collaborate with other parts of IBM to help GSIs /Service Partners embrace and advocate the hybrid, in-place modernization on IBM Z.
• Ability to engage with Senior Executives, Practice /Vertical Heads of the top Business Partners of IBM to discuss joint pursuits involving collaboration, co-creation and go-to-market.
  
  

• Proficiency with IBM Z middleware and transaction systems such as CICS, IMS TM, MQ, and WebSphere Application Server (WAS).
• Expertise in COBOL and IBM Z data sources including Db2, IMS DB, and VSAM.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices on IBM Z, with modern SCM platforms (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket), modern IDEs (IDzEE, VS Code) and tools for build (DBB), testing (TA4Z), and deployment (Wazi Deploy).
• Expertise in application integration across the hybrid cloud and IBM Z using z/OS Connect and related integration technologies.
• Experience in data analytics, data modernization, and data integration strategies on IBM Z such as Data Virtualization, Real time information sharing and related.
• Good understanding of AI/ML, Generative AI concepts, and basic Python. AI on IBM Z would be a plus.
• Experience with enterprise automation, AIOps, and observability tools.
• Good understanding of IBM z/OS, Linux on Z, and Z Security.
• Good understanding of OpenShift, Cloud and container technologies.
• Ability to lead architectural design, conduct technical workshops, and mentor junior architects and engineers.
  
  

• Hands on skills on Software Installation / Maintenance on System Z, System Administration, Performance Tuning etc. would be a plus.
• Working knowledge of cloud services that are a key part of REST API driven integration architecture and administrative skills on cloud platforms preferred.
