The Digital Engineering function within the AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Enabling Infrastructure - the systems that support mobility, utilities, and connectivity across the built environment. These include highways, railways, water networks, and digital infrastructure that enable societies to function efficiently and sustainably. As part of the Digital Engineering team, you will contribute to the digital transformation of infrastructure delivery by integrating advanced modelling, automation, data analytics, and information management practices across the asset lifecycle. You will work at the intersections of engineering, BIM, project management as a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Specialist, to deliver high-impact data driven solutions that align with global standards and client expectations.
Responsibilities
Information Management (ISO 19650) & Digital Delivery Governance
Support implementation of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), Information Delivery Plans (IDPs), and Common Data Environment (CDE) governance aligned with ISO 19650 principles.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, project management, construction, supply chain) to define information requirements, data exchange protocols, and delivery milestones.
Drive adoption of structured information management workflows: naming conventions, metadata, approvals, status codes, transmittals, and audit readiness.
Own information quality: run structured audits, validation checks, and compliance reviews; escalate risks early with clear evidence and recommended corrective actions.
Coordinate digital handover preparation: ensure information is complete, consistent, and usable for downstream project and asset lifecycle needs.
Facilitate stakeholder communication: run working sessions, document decisions, clarify requirements, and ensure all parties understand "what good looks like" for information delivery.
Digital Coordination (Federation, Review, Issue Management) — Oversight Focus
Coordinate model and data federation, coordination reviews, and issue management workflows using agreed platforms and standards.
Support clash/coordination review cycles by ensuring the right inputs, the right participants, and the right actions — focusing on outcome closure rather than tool operation.
Establish transparent issue management practices: define priorities, owners, deadlines, and evidence of closure; communicate progress through simple, credible reporting.
Construction Management Perspective on Digital Delivery
Apply construction management fundamentals to strengthen digital delivery outcomes: sequence awareness, constructability thinking, stakeholder alignment, and change control.
Translate construction-stage realities into digital requirements (what information is needed, when it is needed, and how it must be structured to support decisions).
Promote "digital for delivery" thinking — ensuring digital processes improve predictability, reduce rework, and enable better project coordination.
Demonstrate curiosity and learning agility to adopt and/or support automation approaches (low-code, scripting, workflow optimisation) that improve delivery efficiency.
Contribute to data schema thinking, information structures, and repeatable templates that reduce ambiguity and increase delivery consistency.
Support development or continuous improvement of dashboards and reporting packs that communicate project health (issues, coordination, readiness, information quality).
Data Analytics & Visualisation (Decision Support)
Support development of simple, reliable dashboards and reporting views for: issue tracking, coordination status, information quality, sequencing inputs, quantity/attribute completeness, and project information management.
Use data to communicate clearly: highlight trends, risks, blockers, and recommended actions — tailored to stakeholder needs.
Essential
Experience & Knowledge
Possess 8–10 years of overall experience, including 4–6 years of relevant expertise in the AEC industry and infrastructure delivery environment. Skilled in construction management, project delivery coordination, information management, and digital delivery, with a strong background in managing complex projects and implementing technology-driven solutions.
Strong communication capability: confident verbal communication, structured written communication, ability to present clearly, and ability to align multiple stakeholders.
Evidence of learning agility: quickly picking up new tools, new workflows, and new standards; asking the right questions and scaling skills independently.
Working understanding of information management fundamentals (document control concepts, CDE workflows, approvals, governance).
Awareness of ISO 19650 intent and principles (training or applied exposure is acceptable; depth can be developed with us).
Specific domain experience in managing and delivering linear infrastructure projects, including Highways, Rail, Utilities, and Water systems and multidisciplinary coordination.
Desirable
Hands-on experience supporting BEPs/IDPs, CDE setups, information audits, or digital handover readiness.
Exposure to Agile or iterative delivery environments.
Exposure to automation, computational thinking, low-code workflows, or scripting used to streamline delivery.
Experience collaborating with project management teams, construction teams, or site-facing stakeholders where communication and clarity are critical.
Software / Digital Platform Skills
Essential (core platforms for this role):
Proven experience with Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms such as ACC, BIM360, ProjectWise, or equivalent, with a focus on comprehensive workflow management and process optimisation rather than basic operational tasks.
Issue / workflow tracking and reporting capability (e.g., Power BI, Excel, SharePoint/Teams lists, or equivalent).
Power BI (or equivalent): ability to interpret data, build basic views, and communicate insights (Power Query/DAX knowledge is a plus).
Strong proficiency in collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Office suite) and professional documentation practices.
Desirable (tool Familiarity That Can Be Developed Further)
Review and coordination tools: Navisworks, ACC Model Coordination, Revizto, iTwin, Vrex or similar.
Authoring tools exposure: Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, InfraWorks (not required to be a production modeller).
Dynamo / Generative Components / Grasshopper (awareness or interest).
Power Automate / Power Apps (awareness or interest).
Required: Masters degree in Construction Management / Masters in Infrastructure engineering (or closely related discipline that supports construction delivery leadership and coordination).
