Job Description

A Database Administrator (DBA) is a crucial role in any organization that relies on the storage and retrieval of data. This professional is responsible for the intricate structure, storage, organization, and integrity of data. A DBA ensures data is stored efficiently, accessible only to authorized users, and kept safe from corruption or loss. They work with developers to implement robust security measures, maintain backups, and optimize database performance for speed and reliability. The DBA will interact with a team of IT professionals, data analysts, and business managers to support data-driven decision-making. Additionally, they must stay updated on the latest database technologies and trends, ensuring the organization’s databases meet both current and future needs. A successful DBA combines technical acumen with strong communication skills, as liaising between developers and end-users is often necessary.


Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage databases, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor database systems to ensure environments are stable and available as needed.
  • Perform regular security assessments to protect data, preventing unauthorized access.
  • Establish and manage backup and recovery policies and procedures for databases.
  • Identify and resolve database issues by troubleshooting and optimizing database performance.
  • Assist developers in writing efficient queries and database-related code for applications.
  • Document database configurations, performance baselines, and maintenance tasks thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with IT team members to support all aspects of database administration.
  • Update and integrate database management tools and systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide users and staff with technical support, resolving database-related queries.
  • Stay informed about new database technologies and integrate them where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to align database structure with organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or roles involving database management.
  • Proficiency in various database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of database security practices and data encryption techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and solve complex data-related problems.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, a strong plus.
