Job Description

The Director of Procurement is responsible for building, leading, and continuously improving Aledades enterprise-wide procurement function. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this leader will design and operationalize procurement strategy, drive significant cost reduction through strategic sourcing, and serve as a key cross-functional partner to Finance, Legal, Technology, and business unit leaders. This role owns the full procure-to-pay lifecycle and is expected to bring structure, discipline, and scale to a high-growth healthcare environment.

We are flexible with respect to geographic location, and the ideal candidate will be comfortable working remotely/work from home within the US or be based from Bethesda, MD office.

Primary Duties:

Strategic Sourcing & Cost Management:

  • Design, implement, and lead a best-in-class procurement function applying supply chain management best practices appropriate for a high-growth healthcare organization.
  • Establish and execute a strategic sourcing program with clear category ownership across IT, professional services, clinical vendors, facilities, and other material spend areas.
  • Implement RFP/RFQ processes to drive competitive tension and negotiate favorable commercial terms with suppliers.
  • Leverage spend data and financial analytics to identify cost reduction opportunities, model financial impacts, and gain business leadership alignment on savings initiatives.
  • Establish measurable performance metrics and regularly report third-party spend, savings, and supplier performance to Finance and senior leadership.

Supplier Relationship & Contract Management:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers; develop a preferred vendor program to consolidate the supply base, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
  • Lead contract negotiations and administer agreements with suppliers, vendors, and service providers; ensure commercial terms reflect Aledades risk tolerance and business objectives.
  • Oversee supplier onboarding, including evaluation of financial stability, compliance posture, and service capability.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies, claims, and quality issues in a timely manner, escalating when needed.
  • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and market benchmarks to validate fair and reasonable pricing.

Compliance, Risk & Governance:

  • Establish and maintain procurement policies, procedures, standards, and internal controls; educate stakeholders on compliant purchasing practices and audit for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing procurement and vendor management.
  • Manage healthcare-specific vendor compliance requirements, including Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), HIPAA obligations, and other regulatory considerations relevant to Aledades operating environment.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks including supplier financial instability, single-source dependencies, and business continuity gaps.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits and implement continuous improvement programs to close identified gaps.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Change Management:

  • Serve as a trusted cross-functional partner to Finance, Legal, Technology, HR, and business unit leaders by embedding procurement discipline without creating bureaucratic friction.
  • Lead organizational change management efforts associated with standing up and scaling the procurement function, including stakeholder education, process adoption, and communication strategies.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate colleagues on procurement policies, approval workflows, and compliant purchasing behaviors.
  • Build strong internal relationships to proactively identify procurement needs, influence upstream decision-making, and reduce maverick spend.
  • Represent Procurement in cross-functional initiatives, vendor governance forums, and finance planning cycles.

Team Leadership & Organizational Development:

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing procurement team as the function scales.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and create development pathways for direct reports.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the Procurement function.
  • Model collaborative, cross-functional leadership that reflects Aledades values and ways of working.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • 12+ years of experience in sourcing and purchasing

Preferred knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

  • NAPM or APICS certification preferred
  • Six Sigma or Lean training and experience preferred
  • Solid track record meeting cost reduction targets
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong contract review experience
  • Excellent communication skills (public speaking, individual negotiations, correspondence)
  • Proven success in a senior procurement role in a high-growth environment
  • Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts to achieve objectives
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate internally with other teams involved in the procure to pay process

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time. Extensive use of computers and keyboard. Occasional walking and lifting may be required.
