Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Squint Specialist to lead our pediatric eye care and strabismus department. The ideal candidate will diagnose, manage, and treat a wide range of visual disorders in infants, children, and adolescents, alongside managing adult strabismus (squint) cases. This role demands excellent surgical precision, a patient and child-friendly approach, and strong clinical decision-making skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical & Diagnostic Evaluation
  • Conduct comprehensive pediatric eye examinations, including specialized testing for neonates, toddlers, and uncooperative children.
  • Perform detailed sensorimotor and orthoptic evaluations to assess ocular alignment, eye motility, binocular vision, and depth perception.
  • Diagnose and manage conditions such as Strabismus (Squint), Amblyopia (Lazy Eye), refractive errors, pediatric cataracts, glaucoma, and pediatric nystagmus.
  • Screen and manage high-risk newborns for Retinol of Prematurity (ROP) in coordination with the neonatological/pediatric team.
  • Surgical & Non-Surgical Interventions
  • Perform advanced Squint Correction Surgeries (both pediatric and adult) using minimally invasive techniques, adjustable sutures, or complex muscle transpositions.
  • Execute pediatric microsurgeries including pediatric cataract extractions, nasolacrimal duct (NLD) probing/obstruction corrections, and minor trauma care.
  • Administer and manage non-surgical therapeutic regimens including patch therapy (occlusion), prism glasses, optical penalization, and vision therapy exercises.
  • Administer specialized in-office procedures such as Botox injections for specific strabismus presentations.
  • Patient Care & Family Counseling
  • Deliver empathetic and clear counseling to parents and caregivers regarding prolonged treatment timelines (e.g., patching compliance or post-operative care).
  • Coordinate closely with pediatricians, neurologists, and geneticists for children presenting with systemic or developmental disorders affecting vision.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Requirement Description Education MBBS followed by a post-graduate degree (MS / MD / DNB) in Ophthalmology from a recognized institute. Specialization A formal Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from a reputed eye hospital or medical college. Experience 1 to 5+ years of post-fellowship clinical and surgical experience (can be adjusted based on seniority required, e.g., Junior Consultant vs. Senior Consultant). Surgical Expertise Independent competency in horizontal and vertical muscle squint surgeries, pediatric cataracts, and general ophthalmic procedures. Key Soft Skills Exceptional patience and specialized behavioral skills required to examine young, anxious, or uncooperative pediatric patients.
