Job Description

The Media Relations Coordinator plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the public image of the organization through strategic communication and media engagement. This position requires a dynamic individual who can effectively manage media inquiries, build strong relationships with journalists, and develop compelling content that captures the essence of the organization. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of media dynamics, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Working closely with the communications team, the Media Relations Coordinator will contribute to the development and implementation of media strategies that align with the organization’s goals and enhance its visibility and reputation across various platforms.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local, national, and international media outlets.
  • Coordinate and manage media inquiries and interview requests efficiently and professionally.
  • Compose and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other public communications.
  • Assist in the development and execution of strategic media relations plans and campaigns.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare reports on media activities and trends impacting the organization.
  • Organize and oversee press conferences and media events, ensuring effective communication and attendance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify newsworthy content and storytelling opportunities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date media contact database and track interactions with key journalists.
  • Support the development of crisis communication strategies and manage media during crisis situations.
  • Analyze media coverage metrics to evaluate the success of media relations efforts.
  • Provide media training and preparation for spokespersons to ensure effective communication.
  • Work closely with the social media team to align messaging across traditional and digital media.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Proven experience in media relations or a similar communications role required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for success.
  • Strong understanding of media landscape, trends, and public relations strategies.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in media monitoring tools and public relations software is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in all aspects of the role.
