A Video Editor is responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a polished and cohesive product that aligns with the project brief and meets the expectations of the production team. This role involves manipulating and editing film pieces, incorporating sound effects, graphics, and special effects to enhance the final output. A Video Editor must be creative and have a deep understanding of storytelling to effectively transform scripts into captivating visual experiences. Strong attention to detail, patience, and excellent time-management skills are essential as editors work to meet deadlines while ensuring the highest-quality content is delivered. A successful Video Editor has a proactive approach, works well within a team, and possesses a keen sense of visual aesthetics and narrative flow.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with directors and producers to discuss the project vision and storyline.
• Review footage sequence and identify scenes worthy of inclusion in the final cut.
• Trim footage segments and put together sequences to create a seamless narrative.
• Edit films by selecting music, audio, colors, and effects to suit project needs.
• Maintain a watchful eye for continuity issues and make necessary adjustments.
• Sync sound effects and natural audio to support and enhance footage credibly.
• Create rough and final cuts from the compiled footage for team reviews.
• Resize and reformat video content to fit various multimedia channels and platforms.
• Organize and manage large amounts of digital footage and video assets.
• Address client notes and feedback, making necessary adjustments to video content.
• Ensure that all edits fall within the legal standards for production and broadcast.
• Stay updated on industry software advancements and editing trends and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Film, Communication Arts, or a related field preferred.
• Proven work experience as a Video Editor with a strong portfolio required.
• In-depth knowledge of digital technology and video editing software like Adobe Premiere.
• Hands-on experience with editing software including Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro.
• Creative mind and strong storytelling skills to create compelling narratives.
• Ability to work collaboratively with tight deadlines and under pressure.
• Solid understanding of continuity, pacing, and timing principles in video editing.
