Job Description

An Admission Counselor plays a critical role in the process of college or university admissions. This position is vital for guiding prospective students and their families through the enrollment process, from the initial contact through to matriculation. Admission Counselors serve as the primary point of contact for students, advocating for the educational institution and communicating its value, culture, and offerings. They help to assess applicant credentials, conduct interviews, and participate in outreach events designed to attract qualified candidates. The role requires a personable, detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining accurate records. An effective Admission Counselor builds and maintains positive relationships with students, families, and educational professionals to ensure a smooth and supportive admissions experience.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and attract prospective students to the institution.
  • Conduct admissions information sessions and campus tours for prospective students and families.
  • Review and evaluate student applications to assess their eligibility for admission.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of student interactions and application statuses.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of on-campus and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to support students through the enrollment process.
  • Participate in evaluating marketing materials and suggesting improvements to recruitment initiatives.
  • Build and nurture relationships with high schools, community organizations, and educational partners.
  • Provide guidance to prospective students on application procedures and financial aid opportunities.
  • Communicate closely with students and families to convey the benefits of the institution’s programs.
  • Monitor market trends and changes in the education sector affecting admissions prospects.
  • Travel locally and occasionally out-of-state for student recruitment and admissions events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in admissions, recruitment, or related field in an educational environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in data management systems and common office software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in education.
