Job Description

An X-Ray Technician, also known as a Radiologic Technologist, plays a critical role in the medical diagnostic process by creating images of internal body structures through the use of specialized imaging equipment. These images help physicians diagnose and treat various medical conditions effectively. X-Ray Technicians work in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic imaging centers, and sometimes in portable units for remote or emergency situations. They interact closely with patients, explaining procedures and ensuring comfort, while also collaborating with physicians and radiologists to obtain optimal imaging results. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to manage patient care and safety, precisely operate imaging equipment, and comply with safety standards.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and position patients correctly for X-ray procedures to ensure optimal imaging results.
  • Operate X-ray and related diagnostic equipment efficiently and safely adhering to protocols.
  • Review and evaluate X-ray images to determine if additional images are needed for clarity.
  • Maintain detailed patient records including the type of examination and results obtained.
  • Ensure radiation safety measures are in place to protect patients and healthcare staff.
  • Calibrate and perform regular maintenance checks on diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Assist radiologists and medical staff during advanced radiographic procedures as required.
  • Stay informed about new developments in radiologic technology and upgrade skills accordingly.
  • Provide compassionate care to patients, addressing their concerns and answering questions.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in radiologic practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Ensure examination rooms and equipment are clean, orderly, and ready for use.

Requirements

  • Certification and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred.
  • State licensure is required to practice as an X-Ray Technician in applicable states.
  • An associate degree or equivalent education in Radiologic Technology is essential.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures to patients clearly.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in capturing and reviewing diagnostic images.
  • Ability to lift or position patients or equipment, as the job can be physically demanding.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adhering to industry health standards.
