Job Description

A Store Keeper plays an essential role in managing inventory and ensuring that goods in a warehouse or storage area are organized and accessible. They are responsible for the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods, which includes keeping accurate records of all inventory levels and maintaining the store premises in an orderly condition. The Store Keeper works closely with various departments to deliver optimal stock levels to meet business demands while minimizing overstock and stockouts. This role is crucial for smooth operations, requiring a person who is detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to operate basic warehouse equipment are crucial for success in this position.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and movements in the storage area.
  • Receive incoming shipments and verify their correctness against purchase orders.
  • Ensure proper storage of goods, adhering to all safety and health regulations.
  • Assist in inventory management, including regular stocktaking and cycle counts.
  • Prepare goods for dispatch and coordinate logistics for outgoing shipments.
  • Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment responsibly and safely.
  • Communicate with suppliers and internal departments regarding inventory needs.
  • Identify discrepancies in inventory and report them to management for resolution.
  • Implement methods to optimize stock control and storage efficiency.
  • Monitor the condition of stored goods and arrange for any required maintenance.
  • Ensure the storage area is clean, organized, and free from hazards at all times.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff or new recruits if required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is required.
  • Proven experience as a Store Keeper or in a related position is essential.
  • Familiarity with inventory management software and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to manage store operations.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy items and work in a warehouse environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to accurately record inventory data.
