Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction industry, managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects. They are involved from the initial calculations to the final figures, ensuring the construction project is completed within its projected budget. The primary aim is to minimize the cost of a project while enhancing value for money, and ensuring that the project meets all legal and quality assurance requirements and regulations. As a Quantity Surveyor, one must have a thorough understanding of construction methods, procurement, and financial management in order to assist and advise clients on which construction proposals are best suited for their needs. This role not only demands high levels of analytical skills but also an ability to make clear reports to stakeholders, keeping in view the financial interests and the policies of the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects.
  • Perform risk, value management, and cost control exercises on projects.
  • Value completed work and make arrangements for payment to contractors.
  • Analyze project progress, prepare variants, and ensure budgets are maintained.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Advise clients on cost planning and commercial matters, including disruptive activity.
  • Negotiate and approve variations to contracts based on project needs.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by contractors.
  • Provide detailed progress reports, monthly updates, and forecasting estimates.
  • Conduct cost analysis occasionally to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in project-related meetings, providing expert input on budget issues.

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying, particularly in a construction environment.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills to analyze costs and value engineering.
  • Excellent understanding of construction methods and legal responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in using quantity surveying tools and software applications.
  • Ability to produce clear financial and project management reports on a regular basis.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams.
