Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in the construction industry by managing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects. From the initial calculations to the final figures, they seek to minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money while still achieving the required standards and quality. A Quantity Surveyor needs to be proficient in cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and contract management. This role often involves liaising with architects, engineers, and contractors. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of various contract types used in the industry and the ability to work closely with clients and other stakeholders to ensure a project stays on budget. Accurate estimation and financial forecasting are key, and the role demands a high level of professionalism and precision.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze project costings for tenders, such as materials, quantities, and labor.
  • Negotiate contracts and work schedules with architects, clients, engineers, and contractors.
  • Monitor and control construction budgets, ensuring financial targets are met and maintained.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress and report on potential risks.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports for clients and management to review project stages.
  • Review, evaluate, and negotiate contracts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and dispute resolution to all stakeholders involved.
  • Develop and maintain a cost database for use in budgeting and forecasting future projects.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
  • Utilize financial models for accurate reporting and projection of construction costs.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of financial statements to comply with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in quantity surveying or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of building and construction standards and legal guidelines.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with various stakeholders in the industry.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines consistently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
