We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team, a position that plays a critical role in keeping patients' healthcare journeys smooth and safe. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients for various laboratory tests, ensuring that all specimens are handled and processed accurately according to medical protocols. Working under the supervision of a Lead Nurse or Laboratory Manager, the Phlebotomist maintains high standards of care, precision, and patient comfort. Responsibilities

  • Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques.
  • Verify patient identity and introduce yourself to reassure and prepare them for the procedure.
  • Accurately label all collected specimens and ensure proper storage for laboratory testing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and workspaces according to health standards.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to understand specific test requirements for patients.
  • Comply with all hospital or lab safety regulations and guidelines during procedures.
  • Document all patient interactions and specimen collections in the appropriate databases or logs.
  • Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and order new materials as necessary.
  • Prepare and process samples for internal transportation to testing laboratories.
  • Educate patients about the blood collection process and address any questions or concerns they might have.
  • Assist in training new phlebotomy staff as needed, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Report any discrepancies or unusual test results to supervising medical staff promptly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is mandatory.
  • Completion of a recognized phlebotomy certification program is essential.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems and electronic health records is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, if required by the job.
