Responsibilities

• Draw blood samples from patients for testing and transfusions efficiently and safely.
• Identify and label all specimens accurately to ensure correct processing and analysis.
• Verify patient information and test requisitions before proceeding with blood collection.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of tools and worksites to prevent contamination.
• Explain procedures to patients and assist in calming patient anxieties during blood draw.
• Organize and maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
• Dispose of needles and biohazard materials according to safety protocols and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and healthcare professionals for accurate results.
• Participate in quality control and assurance to improve patient outcomes and efficiencies.
• Ensure inventory of needles, tubes, and other supplies is adequate and reordered in a timely manner.
• Stay informed and updated on all phlebotomy procedures and new medical technologies.
• Adhere to all health regulations, guidelines, and best practices established by the institution.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy certification program is mandatory for application.
• Previous experience working as a Phlebotomist in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of blood draw techniques and venipuncture procedures required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact empathetically with patients and colleagues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all situations.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in using healthcare software systems and managing digital records.
