Job Description

The role of a Kitchen Steward is vital in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of a kitchen environment in a hospitality setting. A Kitchen Steward is responsible for ensuring that all kitchen and dining areas are kept clean and organized, which is essential for the smooth running of any food service operation. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of hygiene standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Kitchen Steward will support the culinary team by maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and the workspace. Ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards is critical, as is working closely with other team members to uphold the values and reputation of the establishment.


Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize all kitchen utensils, equipment, and work areas regularly.
  • Ensure rubbish bins are emptied promptly and disposed of appropriately.
  • Maintain the chemical supplies and monitor their usage and storage carefully.
  • Assist the culinary team with the unloading and organizing of food deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Polish, clean, and store dishes, glassware, and silverware appropriately.
  • Perform regular inventory checks and report supply needs to management timely.
  • Support the kitchen team during peak service times with general duties.
  • Help prepare kitchen equipment for opening and closing procedures daily.
  • Coordinate with the dishwashing team to optimize cleaning processes efficiently.
  • Maintain proper waste storage areas for trash and recycling as required.
  • Communicate with kitchen staff and management to facilitate smooth operations.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a busy kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong understanding of basic kitchen sanitation and hygiene practices.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavyweight items.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with kitchen staff effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to all established safety protocols.
