Job Description

The Kitchen Steward plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of a kitchen facility. This position requires a diligent individual committed to ensuring that the kitchen and its equipment are hygienic and fully operational at all times. The Kitchen Steward assists in the setup, breakdown, and cleanliness of kitchen operations and works closely with the kitchen staff to support the seamless execution of culinary activities. The role is central to maintaining hygiene standards, managing waste, and ensuring that the kitchen operates at a professional level. The ideal candidate should have good organizational skills, adhere to safety standards, and be ready to work in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure all kitchen surfaces, including floors and equipment, are clean and sanitized.
  • Assist in the daily setup and breakdown of kitchen workstations and equipment.
  • Manage the dishwashing station, ensuring all cutlery and crockery are spotless.
  • Support chefs and kitchen staff during peak hours as required.
  • Organize and maintain cleanliness in all storage areas inside the kitchen.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring items are organized properly.
  • Ensure that all garbage is disposed of promptly and efficiently adhering to safety regulations.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment for proper functioning and report maintenance issues to management.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations within the kitchen premises.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and ensure stocks are updated and managed efficiently.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure the kitchen operates smoothly and effectively.
  • Participate in kitchen training sessions to enhance knowledge and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene standards and safety protocols.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask efficiently.
  • Good communication skills to effectively work with kitchen staff and management.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
