Job Description

A Kitchen Helper is an essential role in any food service establishment, playing a key part in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen. This position supports chefs and kitchen staff by performing a variety of tasks that are vital for the smooth operation of the kitchen. Responsibilities include assisting with food preparation, cleaning kitchen equipment, and ensuring that the kitchen remains organized and spotless throughout the day. The Kitchen Helper also may be tasked with receiving shipments, storing ingredients, and maintaining inventory records. This role requires a diligent, attentive worker with a passion for the culinary arts, capable of working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to the dynamic needs of the kitchen team.


Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the kitchen.
  • Wash, peel, and chop vegetables and fruits for meal preparation.
  • Help maintain kitchen equipment by cleaning and storing it properly.
  • Unload and organize food supplies from delivery trucks efficiently.
  • Dispose of trash and waste materials to maintain a tidy kitchen area.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to the kitchen supervisor.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in plating dishes by following the chef's plating specifications.
  • Clean pots, pans, utensils, and work surfaces immediately after use.
  • Label and store food items properly to prevent spoilage and contamination.
  • Support the kitchen staff in any task needed to ensure a smooth flow of operations.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Ability to handle kitchen equipment safely and efficiently at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Capability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety regulations.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with kitchen staff.
