The Senior Cost Manager - MEP is a crucial role in ensuring the successful financial management of complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects. This professional strategizes to deliver project objectives within the stipulated time and budget constraints. The position involves leading, coaching, and developing cost management plans while coordinating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality MEP services. The Senior Cost Manager is responsible for providing strategic cost analysis, reducing operational expenditures, analyzing risks, and offering insights that are critical to project viability. The role demands a solid understanding of the construction industry, particularly in MEP design and implementation, backed with significant experience in cost consultancy. This professional not only manages current projects but plays a critical role in future project planning and procurement. Effective communication and negotiation skills alongside a deep understanding of contracts, procurement strategies, and stakeholder management are vital for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the cost management team to ensure accurate budget control for all projects.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams to align project costs with design objectives.
  • Prepare detailed cost plans and estimates for MEP projects of varying scale and complexity.
  • Implement cost control measures to identify and mitigate risks before they impact the budget.
  • Review and approve project forecasts, budgets, and financial reporting documentation.
  • Negotiate contract terms with vendors and project stakeholders to achieve cost savings.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize project resources and financial outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, and professional standards.
  • Mentor and support junior cost managers and project staff in career development.
  • Provide regular updates and presentations on cost performance to senior management.
  • Contribute to the improvement of processes and procedures related to cost management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in cost management within the MEP sector.
  • Professional membership with RICS or equivalent organization is preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and proficiency with financial management software tools.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement strategies, and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders.
