Job Description

The Pastry Commis plays a crucial role in the pastry section of any professional kitchen. As a Pastry Commis, you will assist in creating delicious pastries, desserts, and baked goods, supporting the Pastry Chef and team. Your job will involve preparing ingredients, following recipes meticulously, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the pastry station. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and production of a variety of pastries and desserts.
  • Measure and mix ingredients to prepare batters, doughs, fillings, and glazes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station at all times.
  • Follow recipes and directions accurately to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Assist in decorating pastries and desserts to ensure visual appeal.
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate with the Head Pastry Chef regarding inventory needs.
  • Execute basic baking techniques required to create pastries and dessert items.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and hygiene standards to ensure food safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with other team members to improve processes and service delivery.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
  • Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and other stock items appropriately.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Pastry Commis or similar role in a pastry kitchen.
  • A culinary arts certificate or diploma specializing in pastry is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of basic baking techniques and procedures is essential.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve kitchen goals.
  • Strong attention to detail to create visually appealing and tasty pastries.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new methods and techniques in pastry making.
