Job Description

An ICU Nurse is a highly skilled professional who provides critical care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit. These nurses are responsible for closely monitoring patients with life-threatening conditions and delivering specialized care to maintain and restore overall health. An ICU Nurse must work collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans. They are essential in administering high-level medical attention, operating life-support systems, and responding promptly to emergencies. Problem-solving abilities, quick thinking, and effective communication skills are crucial in this role along with compassionate care and emotional support to patients and their families.


Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and individualized nursing care to ICU patients in compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Monitor patient's vital signs, neurological status, and other critical parameters frequently.
  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and other necessary life-saving interventions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Utilize critical care equipment effectively to ensure the provision of safe patient care.
  • Conduct accurate and timely documentation of patient condition and treatment responses in medical records.
  • Educate and support patients and their families emotionally and psychologically during their critical care journey.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training sessions to keep skills updated.
  • Foster an empathetic and supportive environment for patients and visitors, ensuring optimal care delivery.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sterility in the ICU to prevent infections and contamination.
  • Supervise and support junior staff members or nursing assistants in the ICU setting.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies with appropriate interventions based on ICU protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, ideally in a critical care environment.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced medical terminology and critical care procedures is necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with healthcare teams and patient families.
  • Available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
