Job Description

The Health Care Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Working under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals, the Health Care Assistant provides essential support to patients in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and residential care facilities. The primary focus of this role is to ensure patient comfort, well-being, and the efficient operation of the facility. The role demands compassion, excellent communication skills, and a strong sense of responsibility. A successful Health Care Assistant must be attentive, adaptable to various patient needs, and able to manage stressful situations professionally. Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Provide support and assistance during patient mobility and transfers.
  • Assist with dietary needs, including feeding and meal tray setup and clearance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by ensuring hygiene and infection control.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Assist nursing staff with medical procedures and treatments as required.
  • Transport patients safely to and from medical appointments or therapy sessions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting care provided and observations.
  • Respond promptly to patient calls, requests, and needs with compassion and efficiency.
  • Support emotional needs through companionship and active listening to patients.
  • Participate in training and development activities to improve skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is necessary for consideration.
  • Completion of a state-approved health care assistant training program.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on patient-centered care.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and supporting patients.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and healthcare practices.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain certification.
