Job Description

The role of a Cardiology Technician is a pivotal one within the healthcare system, playing an essential part in the cardiovascular health care team. A Cardiology Technician is responsible for conducting various tests to help diagnose heart and blood vessel disorders. They operate specialized electrocardiogram equipment and assist cardiologists in interpreting test results. Moreover, they often work closely with patients, providing them with information and reassurance during procedures. This role demands a strong understanding of cardiovascular technology, dedication to patient care, and the ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Cardiology Technicians contribute significantly to patient diagnoses, treatment plans, and ultimately, the patients' overall cardiovascular health and wellbeing.


Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment for accurate patient testing.
  • Prepare patients for tests and procedures with clear instructions and support.
  • Monitor patient blood pressure and other vital signs during cardiovascular tests.
  • Assist cardiologists in analyzing EKG and other cardiovascular test results.
  • Document and report any abnormalities in test results to supervising healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients on procedures being performed and address their concerns.
  • Sterilize and set up equipment to ensure clean and safe operational standards.
  • Record detailed patient records and test results in the healthcare database accurately.
  • Perform emergency procedures, like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to enhance overall patient care strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information as per HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Cardiology Technician program highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and electrophysiology essential.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and staff.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex cardiovascular test data accurately.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver patients as required during procedures.
