Job Description

The Health and Safety Officer is a crucial position responsible for ensuring that the workplace adheres to all relevant health and safety standards and regulations. The individual in this role plays an essential part in safeguarding the well-being of all employees and visitors on-site. This role involves conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, and continually monitoring workplace environments to prevent accidents and injuries. A successful Health and Safety Officer will be proactive in identifying potential hazards and implementing strategies to mitigate risks. This position requires a thorough understanding of health and safety legislation and exceptional communication skills to effectively train and guide staff on safety procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety standards and governmental regulations.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety practices.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine their causes.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  • Review and update policies in accordance with latest safety regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with management to create emergency plans and ensure proper execution.
  • Attend seminars and programs to stay updated on health and safety trends and practices.
  • Manage hazardous substances and ensure that they are handled according to safety protocols.
  • Work with local fire departments, rescue agencies, and other relevant bodies.
  • Encourage a safety-conscious culture among employees at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or similar credentials required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety officer role.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and legal guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective training and collaboration.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate complex safety issues and recommend solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail to identify and address safety hazards accurately.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate across different departments.
