Job Description

An English Stenographer is a skilled professional who transcribes spoken words into written text with speed and accuracy. Typically employed in legal and corporate settings, stenographers play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and concise documentation of proceedings, meetings, and reports. They must possess excellent listening skills, a strong command of the English language, and expertise in using shorthand or stenotype machines. Responsibilities

  • Proofread and edit transcribed documents for grammatical and typographical errors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all transcribed data and sensitive information.
  • Manage transcription equipment, including shorthand notebooks or stenotype machines effectively.
  • Collaborate with legal professionals and executives to ensure transcripts meet all necessary standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest transcription software and techniques to improve efficiency.
  • Arrange and organize all transcribed documents for easy access and future reference.
  • Assist in the preparation of formal reports and summaries based on transcribed materials.
  • Handle multiple transcription assignments simultaneously and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Verify the accuracy of downloaded or electronically transmitted transcriptions.
  • Communicate with team members regarding expectations and standards for transcription.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; certification in stenography preferred.
  • Proven experience as a stenographer or similar role in a professional environment.
  • Proficient in shorthand writing and using stenotype machines efficiently.
  • Strong command of the English language including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Exceptional listening, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
