Job Description

About The Role

The Technology Team at GLG builds the platform that matches companies around the world with the experts who can help them make the right call on their most important decisions. GLG is building a next generation platform to transform our industry, and we’re looking for people to help define and build our data infrastructure. Joining GLG’s Database Reliability Engineering (DRE) team, you’ll collaborate with other database administrators, database engineers, systems architects, software engineers, product managers, and users to set and achieve goals that help GLG continue to define the future of expertise.

Database Reliability Engineering at GLG is a union of traditional database administration, database engineering, system operations, and software engineering. We focus on the interactions between applications and data stores. We build a deep understanding of applications, data pipelines, data stores, and develop code and configuration to optimize the interactions between those components for scalability, performance, and resilience. We work closely with application teams on the construction of data-heavy systems, provide expert guidance on the design, security, and implementation of data storage and the software systems that use them. We are polyglot database engineers that thrive in and understand multiple scripting languages and data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain NodeJS-based services and automation tools to support database connectivity and improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of our database infrastructure.
  • Develop robust APIs that abstract database complexity and provide a standardized interface for application teams.
  • Collaborate closely with DREs to translate operational challenges into software-based solutions, reducing manual effort and Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR).
  • Write clean, testable, and efficient code, participating in peer code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Manage application code and infrastructure definitions within Git and GitHub, following modern CI/CD practices.
  • Build solutions that integrate with core AWS services, such as EC2 for compute and S3 for data persistence and archival.
  • Design, build, and maintain ETL solutions to keep data flowing between data systems.
  • Ensure all code and dependent modules are up to date and secure, following security best practices.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of professional software development experience, with expert-level proficiency in NodeJS and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Demonstrable experience managing dependencies and scripts using NPM.
  • Proficiency in AWS concepts and services, particularly EC2 and S3.
  • A strong foundation in database principles; past experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative, operations-focused engineering team.
  • Plus: Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Snowflake.
  • Plus: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
