Job Description

A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Materials Scientist/Materials Characterization Engineer, you will explore, evaluate, and develop advanced semiconductor materials for current and future Grid Technologies applications. You will apply materials science, characterization, modelling, and experimental methods to understand material-property-performance relationships and support the development of technologies in sensing, condition monitoring, power electronics, thermal management, and grid digitalization.

How Youll Make an Impact

·       Evaluate, develop, and qualify semiconductor materials and technologies with potential relevance to Grid Technologies products and future applications.

·       Investigate the influence of composition, processing, crystal structure, defects, interfaces, and operating conditions on electrical, thermal, and functional performance.

·       Apply computational modelling, simulation, and data-driven methods to support materials selection, optimization, and technology maturation.

·       Collaborate with global R&D and engineering teams, universities, suppliers, start-ups, and external laboratories to advance research topics and build technology partnerships.

·       Translate research findings into clear technical recommendations, technology assessments, and research roadmaps for Grid Technologies.

·       Contribute to intellectual property generation, scientific publications, and the transfer of research outcomes toward industrial applications.

What You Bring

·       Masters degree or PhD in Materials Science, Semiconductor Physics, Applied Physics, Metallurgy, Ceramic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or comparable field.

·       Experienced professional with a strong background in semiconductor materials, including material synthesis, processing, characterization, modelling, and performance evaluation in an R&D or technology-development environment.

·       Sound understanding of semiconductor materials and their structure-property-performance relationships, including electrical, thermal, and functional behavior.

·       Hands-on experience with semiconductor material characterization and performance evaluation, including electrical, thermal, structural, and microstructural analysis methods.

·       Knowledge of numerical modelling, scientific programming, materials informatics, AI/ML-assisted materials discovery, or data-driven optimization.

·       Strong analytical thinking, scientific curiosity, and practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across disciplines and translate research into industrially relevant insights.

·       Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in international teams and with external research partners.

·       Willingness to travel, as required.
