About The Role
As an Engineering Manager within Tesco Media, you will lead a team of backend engineers responsible for building reliable, scalable, and high-performing software that supports retail media products and measurement capabilities. You will combine technical leadership with people management, ensuring engineering excellence while creating an environment where teams can thrive and deliver meaningful business outcomes.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys coaching engineers, shaping technical direction, and working closely with Product, Data Science, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions at scale.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll play a key role in growing engineering capability while ensuring the successful delivery of backend platforms and services.
- Engineering leadership across the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from architecture and design through deployment and operational support.
- Team development through coaching, mentoring, performance guidance, and creating opportunities for engineers to grow their careers.
- Delivery ownership by partnering with Product Managers and stakeholders to define priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver business value.
- Technical decision-making that promotes scalable architectures, engineering best practices, operational excellence, and high-quality software.
- Continuous improvement of agile ways of working, development standards, testing practices, and CI/CD adoption across the team.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a leader who combines strong backend engineering expertise with a passion for building high-performing teams.
- We need experience of 10+ years with working as an Engineering Manager in an Ad tech domain
- Experience leading and developing software engineering teams while fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
- Strong foundation in backend software development, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-based applications.
- Knowledge of modern software delivery practices including automated testing, continuous integration, continuous deployment, and observability.
- Ability to partner effectively with Product, Data Science, UX, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance delivery outcomes and technical quality.
