Be the trusted strategic finance partner to Category Directors, Commercial GMs and operational leaders. Convert financial and commercial insight into clear recommendations, constructively challenge decisions, and influence actions on investment, category performance and operating models. Success is measured by the quality and adoption of recommendations, not reporting timeliness alone.
Systems & Tools
Advanced Excel; SAP ECC S4HANA or equivalent ERP; TM1, Anaplan, SAP SAC, OneStream or equivalent planning tools; Power BI, Tableau or equivalent reporting platforms. Comfortable using emerging AI enabled commentary and anomaly detection tools.
Finance Capability
Strong P&L management, forecasting, budgeting, modelling, scenario and sensitivity analysis, business case development, promotional ROI and post implementation review. Retail commercial constructs are preferred. What are we looking for?
Qualifications
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Commerce. CA, CPA fully qualified or in final stages; postgraduate finance or commerce qualification preferred.
Experience
10 to 15 years in Finance Business Partnering, FP&A or commercial finance, including direct support to senior commercial, category or operational leaders. Proven experience owning reporting through executive presentation and delivering insight that influences decisions. Retail, wholesale, merchandise, CPG or another product driven environment is preferred. Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Business Partnering & Influence
Partner with senior business leaders as the Finance voice in trading, category, performance and leadership forums.
Build trusted relationships while constructively challenging assumptions and bringing financial rigour to commercial decisions.
Communicate complex analysis in plain language, adapting from detailed working level discussion to executive recommendation.
Mentor team members and provide quality oversight across the Business Partnering Pod.
2. Commercial Insight & Performance Management
Own end to end performance reporting and present the drivers, implications, risks, opportunities and recommended actions behind the numbers.
Generate proactive insight on margin, promotional performance, channel mix, volume and category contribution.
Lead root cause reviews, quantify risks and opportunities, track KPIs, and support timely mitigation or value realisation.
3. Planning, Forecasting & Investment Decisions
Drive rolling forecasts, quarterly outlooks and annual planning, ensuring commercially grounded assumptions and complete risks and opportunities.
Develop and challenge business cases through scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis and an independent financial perspective.
Lead post implementation reviews to assess benefits realisation against approved commitments.
4. Category, Supplier & Process Partnership
Provide profitability and margin input to range, space and category decisions; track supplier rebates, cost price negotiations and terms compliance.
Challenge trading decisions where evidence indicates margin dilution.
Simplify reporting, improve planning processes and use automation, Compass and modern platforms to increase speed and accuracy.
SUCCESS MEASURES
Forecast accuracy for revenue and margin within the agreed tolerance band.
Commercial recommendations and promotional investments supported by clear evidence
