Job Overview And Responsibilities

The Quality Engineer supports the delivery of reliable software by designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests for web, API, and service-based applications. The role works within an Agile delivery team to understand requirements, execute functional and regression testing, identify defects, and contribute to continuous integration practices. This position applies foundational programming and testing knowledge while developing practical skills in automation frameworks, quality engineering methods, and production-focused validation.

  • Test Automation Development and Maintenance: Develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts for functional, regression, API, and integration testing. Follow established framework standards, create reusable components, and keep test assets aligned with application changes.
  • Test Analysis and Execution: Review user stories and acceptance criteria, identify test scenarios and test data needs, execute manual and automated tests, and document results with clear evidence.
  • Defect Management and Quality Reporting: Log reproducible defects with appropriate severity and supporting details, retest fixes, support root cause discussions, and provide accurate progress and quality status updates.
  • CI/CD and Test Environment Support: Integrate automated tests into established CI/CD pipelines, review execution results, troubleshoot script or environment failures, and support reliable test runs across environments.
  • Agile Collaboration and Continuous Learning: Participate in planning, refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. Collaborate with developers, product partners, and senior QEs; follow coding and test standards; and continuously build automation, domain, and quality engineering skills.

This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded. This position is for United Airlines Business Services Pvt. Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of United Airlines Inc.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in software testing or quality engineering, including exposure to test automation in an Agile environment.
  • No license required. Foundational training in software testing or automation is acceptable.
  • Foundational knowledge of software testing concepts, SDLC, STLC, and defect lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one automation tool or framework such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or an equivalent.
  • Basic programming or scripting ability in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#, or a comparable language.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear test cases, test data, and automated scripts.
  • Working knowledge of API testing and tools such as Postman or an equivalent.
  • Familiarity with source control and defect/work tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned priorities, learn quickly, and deliver with guidance in a fast-paced Agile environment.

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Coursework or training in software testing, programming, or automation
  • Experience testing web applications, APIs, or service-based systems.
  • ISTQB Foundation Level or relevant automation/cloud certification.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools and automated test execution in delivery pipelines.
  • Basic SQL and database validation skills.
  • Familiarity with Git, Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, accessibility testing, performance testing, mobile testing, or observability tools.
  • Awareness of AI-assisted testing tools and responsible use of generated test assets.
