About the Role

 

This role is part of CAI Softwares Graphics Communications BU and will contribute to Monarch. The position is based in Bangalore with a hybrid work model (2 days per week in-office, remainder remote).

The Staff Software Engineer will serve as a technical authority and hands-on problem solver for custom-built enterprise applications leveraging a rare and niche technology stack: Progress 4GL and .NET / C#. This role is critical to designing, extending, and modernizing business-critical systems supporting Print MIS and ERP platforms.

You will work closely with product leaders, architects, QA, and business stakeholders to design and deliver highly customized software solutions. Beyond individual contribution, you will influence architectural decisions, guide technical standards, mentor senior engineers, and help evolve legacy platforms while preserving business continuity.

 

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Act as a Staff-level technical leader within the engineering organization for Progress 4GL and .NET / C#-based systems
  • Design, develop, and maintain custom enterprise applications supporting Print MIS and ERP workflows
  • Lead development efforts across Progress 4GL back-end logic and .NET / C# application layers
  • Own complex business logic, data models, and integrations across systems
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, QA, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions
  • Drive technical design decisions, coding standards, and best practices across niche technology stacks
  • Review and approve code changes, ensuring maintainability, performance, and security
  • Identify and lead initiatives to modernize or stabilize legacy Progress-based platforms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across application, integration, and data layers
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers working on niche or legacy technologies
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term platform evolution plans\
  • Present technical designs, trade-offs, and outcomes to engineering leadership

 

 

You will be a good fit if you are:

 

  • 15+ Yrs of relevant experience (guideline).
  • Niche/rare skillset: Progress4GL & .Net C#; software custom development experience. Print MIS dev experience or ERP
  • Niche/rare skillset: Progress4GL & .Net C#
  • Deeply experienced with Progress 4GL and .NET / C# development
  • Proven experience in custom software development for enterprise platforms
  • Experienced in Print MIS and/or ERP systems, with strong domain understanding
  • Comfortable working in legacy, highly customized, and integration-heavy environments
  • Highly analytical, with strong problem-solving and system-design skills
  • A clear technical communicator who can influence engineering direction
  • Self-driven, ownership-oriented, and capable of operating with a high degree of autonomy

 

 

We would welcome (but not required):

 

  • Additional experience with Progress 4GL and .NET / C#, even in highly niche environments
  • Experience working in Print MIS, ERP, or adjacent enterprise platforms
  • Experience modernizing legacy enterprise systems
  • Experience working in global or product-driven engineering organizations
  • Ability to relocate or transition from niche technology ecosystems, if the right talent is found
