Within Azure Data, the Azure Data Analytics team builds the core analytics experiences in Microsoft Fabric. We own the Data Warehouse, Data Engineering, Data Science, AI, and Power BI workloads, enabling customers to ingest, transform, analyze, and derive insights from structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data at enterprise scale. Our team is at the center of Microsofts strategy to deliver a seamless, end-to-end analytics experience in Fabric.

As a Software Engineer II in the Data Engineering team, you will contribute to the cloud infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems that enable the Spark experience in Microsoft Fabric as well as Microsoft’s Cosmos Analytics big data platform.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain features in distributed services and cloud infrastructure that support large‑scale analytics workloads, following established design patterns and engineering standards.
• Write well‑tested, maintainable code leveraging AI tools and participate in code reviews.
• Learn and apply best practices for performance, reliability, and secure development.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, investigate live‑site issues, apply fixes, and improve service reliability through bug fixes, instrumentation, and automation.
• Work closely with peers, senior engineers, PMs, and partner teams to deliver features, review designs and code, and integrate with shared platform components.
• Implement security, privacy, and compliance requirements into code and configurations, and address findings identified through reviews and audits.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Job Requirements: Other & Additional

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  
  

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
