The Emerging Devices Software (EDS) organization is pioneering intelligent software solutions that power Amazons Personal Devices, including Smart Eyewear and other emerging wearable categories. From optimizing low-latency interactions on constrained wearable hardware to building scalable cloud backends and integrating ML/AI capabilities, every problem we solve pushes the boundaries of whats possible.

We are looking for a seasoned Software Development Manager to lead an engineering team within EDS, solving these intricate challenges. Youll work on software that span the mobile-cloud stack, own end-to-end delivery of features and experiences, and help shape the long-term technical direction of our products.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Software Development Engineers working across the mobile-cloud stack, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Own end-to-end delivery of features and platform capabilities for Amazons Personal Devices, including Smart Eyewear and other emerging wearable categories
  • Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions for mobile applications (Android, iOS, React Native) and cloud services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Partner closely with product managers, UX designers, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and deliver high-impact features from concept to launch
  • Set a high engineering bar through rigorous design reviews, code quality standards, and best practices across the software development lifecycle
  • Identify and resolve technical risks, ambiguities, and complex issues spanning the device, mobile, and cloud layers of the stack
  • Recruit, hire, and develop top engineering talent, building a diverse and high-performing team aligned to Amazons Leadership Principles
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership and stakeholders on team progress, technical direction, and strategic priorities
  • Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap of EDS, helping shape the future of wearable and personal device technology at Amazon

  • End-to-End Ownership: Youll own complete solutions from mobile application features to cloud services, from device integration to production operations

About The Team

The SDEs in your team will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain features for mobile applications (Android, iOS, React Native) and cloud services that power Amazons Personal Devices
  • Write and maintain high-quality, well-tested code for critical components of the device-mobile-cloud stack
  • Be responsible for building and maintaining robust testing frameworks, monitoring system performance, and ensuring software operates reliably across diverse device and connectivity scenarios
  • Work in an agile environment, participating in technical design discussions and code reviews while helping to establish best practices for software development across mobile and cloud
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues spanning the device, mobile, and cloud layers of the stack
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes, tools, and engineering practices as the product and platform evolve

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Hands-on experience designing & building mobile applications for Android or iOS devices OR experience designing & building scalable cloud services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
