We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Database Administrator to manage, maintain, and support business-critical database environments across production and non-production systems. The role requires strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, with a focus on database availability, performance, security, backup and recovery, and high-availability and disaster-recovery operations.
The ideal candidate will be capable of independently troubleshooting complex database issues, supporting critical production environments, and working closely with application, infrastructure, and engineering teams to ensure reliable database operations.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across production and non-production environments.
Perform SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.
Monitor database health, performance, availability, resource utilisation, and capacity.
Diagnose and resolve complex database issues involving slow queries, blocking, deadlocks, replication, connectivity, and database failures.
Perform database performance tuning and query optimization using execution plans, DMVs, Query Store, wait statistics, and other diagnostic tools.
Develop and maintain T-SQL scripts and database administration utilities.
Manage database backup, recovery, restore, and point-in-time recovery processes.
Regularly validate backup integrity and restore readiness to support business continuity.
Support Always On Availability Groups, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and failoverenvironments.
Participate in planned failover activities and disaster-recovery exercises.
Implement and maintain database monitoring, alerting, and capacity-management processes.
Participate in production incidents and provide timely technical updates to stakeholders.
Conduct root-cause analysis and prepare detailed RCA reports and technical documentation.
Work closely with application, infrastructure, DevOps, and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
Follow database security, access-control, change-management, and operational best practices.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive database administration activities using PowerShell, dbatools, or similar tools.
Support database upgrades, migrations, configuration changes, and operational improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate database documentation, operational procedures, and recovery processes.
What Makes You a Great Fit
6+ years of hands-on experience in production database administration.
Mandatory expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
Strong experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and query optimization.
Hands-on experience with execution plans, DMVs, Query Store, wait statistics, blocking, and deadlock analysis.
Strong understanding of backup, recovery, restore, and point-in-time recovery.
Experience with Always On Availability Groups, HA/DR, replication, and failover.
Strong proficiency in T-SQL and database scripting.
Experience with database monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and availability management.
Practical experience troubleshooting critical production database issues.
Familiarity with PowerShell and dbatools is an advantage.
Exposure to Azure SQL Managed Instance, AWS RDS, MySQL, Database DevOps, CI/CD, or regulated environments is an added advantage.
Strong understanding of database security, access controls, change management, and operational governance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a structured approach to incident resolution.
Ability to work independently, manage production priorities, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
