The Payroll Garnishment Specialist manages and processes garnishment orders and wage attachments to ensure accurate, timely deductions and strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will maintain meticulous records, collaborate across payroll and HR teams, and serve as a trusted contact for employees and external agencies to resolve garnishment issues.
Our Team
You will join the Payroll/Compensation team that supports multi-state payroll operations and ensures payroll compliance across jurisdictions. The team partners closely with HR, legal, and external agencies to deliver timely, accurate payroll services and continuous process improvements.
What You Will Do
Ensure compliance with FLSA, IRS, state tax laws, and garnishment regulations (including child support) by proactively tracking legal updates and implementing required changes.
Review, calculate, and accurately process garnishment orders, levies, and other legal wage attachments to minimize risk and ensure timely deductions.
Act as the primary point of contact for employees with questions or concerns about garnishment deductions, providing clear, confidential guidance.
Liaise with courts, government agencies, attorneys, and creditors to resolve garnishment-related issues and clarify order requirements.
Notify payroll and HR teams of garnishment statuses, changes, and required actions to enable seamless payroll adjustments.
Support payroll audits and internal controls by providing documentation, participating in investigations, and collaborating on remediation efforts.
Drive process improvements and system enhancements related to garnishment processing to increase accuracy and efficiency.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies or disputes related to garnishment deductions and adjust amounts as required by court orders or legal updates.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll, garnishment processing, or a related finance/payroll function.
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and garnishment regulations.
Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex) and Microsoft Excel.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and strong attention to detail.
What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience working in a multi-state payroll environment.
Prior experience with payroll audits, internal controls, or garnishment-specific projects.
Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data validation) and familiarity with payroll reporting tools.
Experience interacting with courts, child support agencies, or external legal representatives.
Proven track record of driving process improvements or system enhancements in payroll operations.
