More about the role

The Lead Software Quality Engineer, an Individual Contributor, is a Functional Quality Expert responsible for driving company-wide adoption of the IoT Software Quality Framework across the connected lighting ecosystem, including edge devices (luminaires, drivers, controllers), platforms, gateways, cloud, mobile applications, and security layers.

This is not an operational Quality Assurance role. The position focuses on enabling and influencing global BU Stakeholders (e.g. R&D teams, Architecture teams, Test Teams, Product Management teams and Field teams) to embed reconfigurable, scalable, secure, and reliable software quality practices into engineering execution.

The ideal candidate must have prior hands-on experience within IoT software engineering (embedded + cloud-connected systems) and must understand system-level integration challenges such as device-cloud communication, OTA updates, interoperability, performance, and cybersecurity risks.

Key Areas of Responsibility IoT Software Quality Framework Deploymen

  • Drive the implementation of the defined Software Quality Framework across
    • Firmware (MCUs, RTOS-based systems)., Gateway / edge computing platforms., Cloud services & APIs.Mobile applications (iOS/Android).Device-cloud connectivity layers.
  • Ensure system-level traceability across hardware–firmware–cloud–app interactions.
  • Institutionalize risk-based engineering practices for distributed Connected Lighting Architectures.
Engineering-Embedded Quality Enablement

  • Partner with device, cloud, and mobile R&D teams to embed “Built-in Quality.”
  • Translate governance standards into practical guidance aligned to Agile / SAFe / DevOps.

Proactive Measures

  • As defined in Company IoT SW Quality Framework.
  • Enable cross-layer dashboards for leadership visibility.
  • Drive early risk detection through data analytics and release readiness reviews.

Reactive Quality & Closed-Loop Learning

  • Support institutionalizing of Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions and Closed Loop Preventions (Field failures., Interoperability breakdowns, safety and Security incidents)

Cross-BU & System-Level Alignment

  • Collaborate with: Firmware R&D., Platform engineering, System architects,Field quality & customer support.
  • Support alignment between central quality governance and BU engineering autonomy.
  • Build strong stakeholder buy-in through technical credibility and pragmatic execution guidance.

Critical Experiences

  • 12+ years in Software Engineering within IoT, embedded systems, cloud platforms, or connected products.
  • Prior hands-on development experience (Software Engineer / Tech Lead / Architect).
  • Experience working in Agile / SAFe / DevOps and global engineering environments.
  • Experience with development tooling (JIRA, Confluence) and Software Quality Tooling (SonarQube, MEND, TIOBE, Dynamic Code Analysis).

Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority

Functional Expertise

  • Experience with reliability engineering and large-scale IoT deployments.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD quality gates.
  • Strong understanding SW Quality KPIs and Leading and Lagging Product Quality Indicators.
  • Experience with proactive metrics and defect prevention strategies.
  • Experience with industry quality standards and structured problem-solving methods (RCA, 5Why, 8D, CAPA etc).
  • System FMEA experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of software reliability, and system-level integration challenges is a plus.
