Lead Software Engineer - Java

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to a large, multi-module codebase with extensive Azure integrations. In this role, you will work across complex distributed systems, drive architectural decisions, and deliver impactful features in an environment that blends modern modules with legacy code, asynchronous messaging flows, and multiple cloud services.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a large, multi-module codebase spanning multiple repositories with numerous integrations
• Design and implement RESTful APIs following OpenAPI specifications and industry best practices
• Build and maintain asynchronous, event-driven architectures using message queues and streaming platforms
• Manage schema evolution and write efficient queries against relational databases
• Deploy and operate services in containerized environments using Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines
• Integrate with various Azure cloud services to support scalable, secure applications
• Write unit and integration tests, ensuring strong code coverage discipline
• Identify and resolve technical issues such as stale dependencies, flaky tests, architectural drift, and security gaps before they become blockers
• Participate in design discussions and push features forward with an end-user mindset
• Document technical decisions and maintain coding standards and architecture documentation
• Collaborate across service boundaries and articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring WebFlux)
• Expertise in relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL, including JPA/Hibernate and Liquibase
• Background in Kubernetes clusters (kubectl, k9s) and containerized environments using Docker and AKS
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services such as Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Key Vault
• Skills in additional Azure services, including Azure Blob Storage and Azure Identity (Managed Identity/UAMI)
• Knowledge of asynchronous/event-driven architectures using message queues (Azure Service Bus or similar) and/or Kafka
• Competency in RESTful API design, OpenAPI specifications, and code generation
• Hands-on experience writing unit and integration tests with JUnit 5 and Mockito
• Capability to quickly orient in complex codebases, read existing code, and understand the domain
• Strong communication skills with a proactive, product-minded approach to problem solving
• Comfort working with complexity, including multiple databases, Azure integrations, async messaging flows, and a mix of legacy and modern modules
• Proficient communication skills in English (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Spring Cloud (Config Server, Azure starters)
• Understanding of Resilience4j or similar circuit-breaker/retry libraries and development approaches
• Exposure to reactive programming with Spring WebFlux and Project Reactor
• Knowledge of Apigee or other API gateway platforms
