About The Role
As an AVP – Corporate Actuary, you will play a key role in shaping and maintaining Swiss Re’s costing framework, with end-to-end responsibility for specific methodologies, parameters, or initiatives. You will work closely with underwriting, finance, risk management, reserving and IT stakeholders to ensure parameters remain robust, transparent, and aligned with business needs. This includes contributing to close the Actual vs Expected (AvE) gap in costing by continuously improving the accuracy and relevance of costing parameters.
This role requires strong technical expertise, a structured approach to problem solving, and the ability to independently manage deliverables while contributing to broader team objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of costing economic parameters, including their review, calibration, and deployment
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the IFRS+ costing framework
- Analyze large and complex datasets to derive insights supporting underwriting decisions
- Collaborate with IT and data teams to improve costing tools, infrastructure, and data flows
- Drive the enhancement of parameter calibration and processes
- Deliver high-quality actuarial analyses for underwriting initiatives and business questions
- Ensure processes and parameters are implemented in a controlled, transparent, and auditable manner
- Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation (methodologies, assumptions, inputs/outputs, validations)
- Translate business requirements into solutions and contribute to their implementation
- Engage proactively with stakeholders across functions and locations to ensure alignment and clarity
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing and support junior colleagues where needed
About The Team
The Group Costing Methods (GCM) team, within Group Underwriting, is responsible for defining, maintaining, and enhancing Swiss Re’s global costing framework. This includes the calibration and deployment of costing methodologies and parameters that directly support underwriting decisions across Reinsurance and Commercial Insurance.
Working from across Zurich and Bengaluru, the team combines actuarial expertise, actuarial analysis, and business insight to evolve the IFRS+ costing framework and deliver consistent, data-driven guidance to underwriting teams globally.
About You
You are a technically strong actuarial professional who takes ownership of your work and delivers reliable, high-quality outcomes. You are comfortable working independently, while collaborating effectively within a global team.
Your Profile
- 5+ years of experience in actuarial or related quantitative roles
- Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL; Python/R is an advantage)
- Ability to translate complex analyses into clear, structured insights
- Good stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across functions and geographies
- Structured, reliable, and delivery-oriented working style
- Fluent in English
- Strong sense of accountability and team collaboration
- Plus: passed actuarial exams
- Plus: Worked or studied in an international environment
